FAQs
What is the minimum age requirement to become a tutor at Explore Learning?
Our tutors must be at least 16. This is a requirement of our registration with Ofsted. If you are interested in applying to tutor but do not meet the age requirements, please apply no earlier than 1 month before you turn 16. Please note, if you wish to tutor online, you must be 17 or over.
How do I check the status of my tutor job application?
You can login to check the status of your application. We keep in touch with you at every stage of your application by phone and email – we’d recommend checking your junk regularly, just in case.
If your status hasn’t changed when you login and you haven’t heard back from us within 2 weeks (and there are no emails hiding in your junk email folder), please contact us.
How many tuition staff work in each centre?
Our centres typically have a leadership team of one Centre Director, one Assistant Director and a team of 15-30 part-time tutors, depending on the number of members that attend the centre.
Can I tutor both in a centre and online?
The majority of our tutors work either in person at one of our centres or remotely as part of one of our online centre teams. If you apply to a vacancy for one of our physical centres, you will be expected to work shifts at that centre, though as part of your development journey you may be offered some online shifts in the future.
Can I be an online only tutor?
When we have online tutoring roles available you will be able to find a specific online tutor role by searching the word ‘online’ in our current vacancies. This role is popular and is often only available for a limited time, so if we are not currently hiring for an online only role, please check back in the future.
How many hours will I be working?
Your contract will state that you must work a minimum of 6 hours per week – however most of our tutors work 10-12 hours per week. You will be offered the same/similar shifts each week.
The number of hours you work will depend on this too. Our membership can fluctuate – so working hours can change, depending on customer demand and your availability.
