Assistant Director role

The atmosphere of the company is enthusiastic, creative and ambitious.

The role of Assistant Director is varied, challenging and very rewarding; offering you the chance to gain broad business experience, while working in a fun environment to benefit children. No day is ever the same and you will never find yourself short of a challenge!

Starting as an Assistant Director you will be in a team of three launching a new centre or running an established centre. The key to the success of each centre is down to the three managers: the Centre Director and two Assistant Directors.

The full time team are graduates from leading universities, with a variety of degree disciplines including some qualified teachers, all sharing a passion for education and the desire to help children reach their full potential.

Their objectives are to manage and promote centres that help children:

  • Build core skills in maths & English
  • Gain confidence
  • Enjoy learning

The Assistant Director role is comprised of many different areas, providing you with a lot of variety in your day. In addition to being hands on tutoring the children, you will gain broad business experience, learning to promote, market and sell a new concept in education; how to operate a business unit, and be responsible for a team of tutors as part of the Management team.

There are four main aspects to the role: (click each one for more information)

MARKETING & Sales
Explore Learning is a new concept in education and as such, when we launch a centre in a different area, no one has ever heard of us before.

It is down to the team to raise awareness in the community through various marketing activities. Once new leads have been generated, we need to convert them into new members and retain them on a monthly basis. The team set targets to achieve lead generation through marketing initiatives, and daily face to face promotional work.

The team will regularly engage people on the Remote Marketing Unit (RMU) – a stand outside of the centre displaying promotional material, to encourage attendance at free Trial Sessions and increase awareness of our services. It is an invaluable activity, and it is vital individuals have the confidence and enthusiasm to effectively promote Explore at all opportunities.

MANAGEMENT
You will take on early responsibility for the day to day running of the centre as part of a team of three managers.

The team schedule weekly and monthly meetings to discuss their business targets with the overall aim to increase the level of membership and improve their retention. The management of an Explore Learning centre involves many aspects including  problem solving, building and maintaining a great reputation, customer service,  and ensuring a high quality of service is provided.

The duties below ensure that teams can achieve this. Individual team members are allocated supervisory titles within the centre to ensure standards across all areas are maintained. However, everyone remains involved with all of the daily tasks, idea generation and implementation.

  • Educational Content
  • Tutor Recruitment, Training and Development
  • Ofsted
  • Health & Safety
  • Finance
  • IT Resolutions
  • Website Management
  • Centre Maintenance inc cleaning
The role requires aptitude, initiative, confidence and ambition as well as excellent organisation skills.

TEACHING
There are many different ways an Assistant Director will interact with children both inside and outside an Explore centre, including:
  • Holding 'Trial Sessions' and creating learning programmes for each individual child in maths and English.
  • Working with the children on a daily basis within the centre on both their individual programmes and group led sessions (11+, Succeed in Secondary, Creative Writing).
  • Monitoring their progress and providing detailed feedback to their parents.
  • Running school assemblies and class workshops.
  • Attending PTA events and school fairs.
  • Having a presence at wider community group events, such as, Brownies, Scouts, Youth Groups and Summer Playschemes.

The teams build extremely strong bonds with both children and parents, and thus possess excellent customer service skills.

CENTRE PERFORMANCE
There are two key aspects to centre performance:

1. Sign Ups – The rate at which centres sign up new members.
2. Retention – Their ability to retain members.

As an Assistant Director you will have the opportunity to make an impact in both areas. There are a number of roles that are allocated to the team in order to ensure that success is achieved in the two key aspects of “Sign Ups” and “Retention”. These roles are outlined below.
