Centre Director - Purley, Surrey

“Explore Learning enables all children to improve their maths and literacy skills, in an exciting environment with passionate tutors.  It is fantastic to hear how quickly Explore Learning improves a child’s academic ability but equally important, their confidence and enthusiasm in education.   The most rewarding part is seeing children excited to come into the centre and learn."

Joanne graduated from the University of Leeds in July 2009 with a 1st degree in Psychology and Management.  She spent three summers working in America at a special needs camp enjoying several positions including counsellor, cooking teacher, evening activity co-ordinator and supervisor. During Joanne’s time in America she travelled around 15 states including California, Tennessee and New York, and also spent time in Central America.  In her spare time, Joanne enjoys running, reading, spending time with her friends and family, and anything adrenaline inducing, for example she has recently sky-dived raising over £1000 for two children’s charities.

“What I love about Explore Learning is that it not only improves a child’s academic ability, but also creates a positive environment in which learning is fun. I admire the enthusiasm of the tutors and I believe that they are inspiring role models for the children who come here. It is very rewarding to help a child grasp areas of their numeracy and literacy, and it is brilliant to see their confidence blossom.”

Nicola joined Explore Learning after studying at the University of Durham and graduating with an Upper Second Class honours in Theology. She worked as a mentor for young offenders at a secure training unit in County Durham and also volunteered at Bolton Lads and Girls Club, assisting in youth work.

I am so happy to be part of Explore Learning. It is such a fantastic place for children to boost their confidence and reach their full potential in maths and English. I also love how passionate we all are about praising children for their efforts and progress. I find it so rewarding getting to know each child as an individual, and being able to give them the help that they need.   I graduated from the University of Reading in 2011 with an upper second class degree in Psychology. I enjoyed my time at university, and found my course fascinating. I have always been interested in child development, and chose to study child and parent interaction for my dissertation. Before university, I took a gap year and did a round-the-world-trip visiting many different countries. This trip inspired me to travel to Brazil as a volunteer in 2010, where I worked with children in a small slum community. This was a truly inspiring experience, of which I will never forget. I have always known I would work with children as a career, but working with Explore Learning has so far exceeded my expectations! I have a smile on my face morning until evening!
