In Reading we concentrate on the entrance exams for Kendrick and Reading Boys' School. For girls we focus on verbal and non-verbal reasoning and for boys we also work on English and mathematics. Teaching takes place in small groups where we help children learn all the necessary skills to achieve their full potential. The course runs from February when children are in Year 5 through to the November when they are in Year 6.
Succeed in Secondary
Succeed in Secondary is an exciting course where we help children learn the skills needed in secondary school. It is based around topical projects and is a fantastic way for children in year 6 and above to learn how to debate, discuss and present with confidence. It runs on a Monday between 7pm-8pm and a Tuesday 5.30pm-630pm.
Explore Writing
This fantastic creative writing course has been designed in conjunction with Explore Learning, Immersive Education and the University of Oxford. Explore Writing runs every Tuesday and Wednesday 7-8pm and is open to all members aged 8+.
Lead by Explore Tutors, the course gives children the opportunity to:
- stretch their imagination
- become skilled in a range of writing styles
- produce pieces of work they can be proud of
Explore Learning and Schools
Since opening, the team at Reading have worked with over 60 local schools and are currently providing free numeracy and literacy workshops. Our workshops are national curriculum aligned and are designed to get children really enthusiastic about their work. We can provide assembly activities and love to get involved with other events happening at the schools e.g. school fetes. Last term we worked with schools including Pangbourne, Southcote, St Paul’s, Theale Primary, Kennet Valley, Calcot Infants, Battle Primary, Aldermaston and Micklands. Look out for us if you are in Year 4 this term as we may be visiting your school soon!
If you would like us to get involved in activities in your school, please do not hesitate to contact the centre as we will be happy to provide you with a booking form for the literacy and numeracy workshops over the next couple of terms or to discuss other possibilities with you.
Workshops
We have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with our local community. We have been to the local library and Waterstone’s bookshop to play interactive games and hold literacy and numeracy workshops. We will be attending the opening of the new Calcot Children’s Centre on Saturday 26th September so expect to see us there! Look out for upcoming events at your local library or contact Reading Explore Learning for more information.

Open Sessions
Open sessions are a brilliant opportunity for our current families to see for themselves their children working at the centre and get more information about curriculum and current teaching methods. Also, it is a great opportunity to meet our fantastic tutors. We always listen to feedback from parents when planning open sessions. For example, in response to parent suggestions for help with homework we were able to set up such sessions. If you are a current parent and have any suggestions for the next open session please let us know.
The next few Open Sessions for parents are on:
Tuesday 29th September, 7-8pm
Saturday 24th October, 6-7pm
Saturday 14th October,6-7pm
Please see a manager to reserve a place.

Mrs O’ Sullivan , Reading Parent
“I am very happy at my son’s progress and would recommend Explore Learning to any parent whose child has difficulties in their maths and English. It is the best decision I ever made regarding Rashid’s education.”
