Succeed in secondary

Our Succeed in Secondary course: making the most of the big leap.

We all remember how we felt as we prepared to start Secondary school. Or before sitting an exam, or handing in a piece of coursework at Secondary.

As your child moves through this phase, their changing priorities (and moods!) present a new set of challenges for their education and their home-life. Everything ramps up a gear, and let’s face it, it’s a roller coaster ride for everyone, parents included!

Don’t fret – our Succeed in Secondary course gives our members the opportunity to build confidence, learn new skills and bag the tools necessary to thrive during this transitional period.

The course is made of a series of short projects based on a range of topical issues and themes. Children learn how to formulate ideas, whilst developing their knowledge and confidence in creating an argument or championing a cause. They’ll also practice skills in presenting, debating and researching. These are all useful strengths which our adolescents can make use of in a multitude of ways, at school as well as their home-life.

How does it work?

Currently, our Succeed in Secondary members are taking on the challenge of becoming young entrepreneurs. The course takes place over a two-week period, based on the popular TV programme, Dragons’ Den. Our members are currently developing a product and writing their own pitches. This includes considering key product information, target markets and finances. All in the hope to secure investment money, to take their product to the next level!

The project will conclude with our members pitching their business ideas to a panel of potential investors. This could be to the family at home, or could even be extended to family or friends via a video call!

We are proud to see that even from home, our Succeed in Secondary members continue to successfully collaborate on team projects. They are achieving brilliant outcomes and picking up peer-led feedback along the way. In addition, they will build confidence with solo activities, ensuring they can increase their independence.

Lastly, the course will help them build a bank of techniques to apply to secondary school projects and tasks, from across a number of subjects. They’ll put together an impressive portfolio of work, and really grow as individuals. We always ask our students to keep in touch and let us know what the future brought for them!

Ready for the challenge? Join our Succeed in Secondary class and help your child get ready for the future. Please note, limited spaces available.
