How do I enter?

You can enter via our website if your child has typed their story. If they have written it by hand, you can post it to us at NYWA, Explore Learning, 74 North Street, Guildford GU1 4AW. Don’t forget to include all of our contact details so we can call you if they win!

How are the stories judged?

The first round of judging will be based on plot, originality, language, characterisation and enjoyment. Steve Backshall will do the final round of judging, based on his writing expertise.

When will you announce the top stories?

There will be 125 regional winners announced on 22nd May, they will then be whittled down to the top 10 on the 5th June. The winner will be announced on 19th June. Keep an eye on our website and social media!

Why do you need personal information?

We ask for parent/teacher details as we endeavour to provide feedback on every entry, information about Explore Learning – and crucially get in contact if you win! The personal data provided will be used for the purposes of administering the competition and in accordance with Explore Learnings Privacy Policy. https://www.explorelearning.co.uk/privacy-policy/

For all school entries we recommend that the children submit their entry using their teacher’s contact details.

Is there a minimum word limit?

No, but remember the judging criteria is on plot, originality, language, characterisation and enjoyment – so make sure you write enough words for us to judge.

May I scribe for my child?

You may scribe for your child, as long as none of the words used are changed!
