As part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, we would like to recognise the ways that Explore Learning has become a prime employer for women by celebrating the journeys of some of our fabulous females.

The organisation behind International Women’s Day recognises ten criteria that prime employers for women meet. We are proud to be able to identify that all of these practices take place within Explore Learning and have created a platform for success for many women over the last twenty years.

Meet Lisa

Operations Director

“I’m incredibly passionate that Explore Learning is a workplace where women can thrive and succeed.” – Lisa

“We always encourage our members to become fearless to reach their full potential and we replicate that same ethos for all our employees. Central to our culture is the process of recognising, promoting and developing top talent from early career to executive level. Having role models such as myself and Catriona Scott, People Director, who have worked our way through the business to board level, showcases our dedication to women’s advancement and gender equality at Explore. We’re 100% committed to gender equality and this is demonstrated not only in our processes and policies but more importantly in our culture and day to day ways of working. I’m proud to be leading an organisation that champions brilliant women”.

Lisa started her Explore Learning career as a tutor in December 2002. Quickly progressing to managing and leading the Peterborough centre before moving to the central Head Office team in 2005. Here she led a region and developed the training function. As the business expanded, Lisa continued to develop her talents working across different roles and departments before becoming the Operations Director and joining the board of directors in 2015.

Mayowa- Regional Manager

Regional Manager

“Explore is a great place for women to work because we are encouraged to be confident, fearless and tenacious leaders which are often qualities that women are afraid to show in the workplace.” – Mayowa

“I started my journey with Explore Learning in 2017. As a graduate moving into the world of work, it was important for me to work for a company that made a difference in the world externally, as well as with their employees, which is why I wanted to work for Explore. Members and staff alike are from a range of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and I have treasured working with tutors and managers that look like me and have shared life experiences.

I have been an Assistant Director, Centre Director and now a Regional Manager. In each role I have always had female role models in senior roles which made a real impact for my career aspirations within Explore. It has always been clear to me that women can and do progress with this company and I am proud to be a part of this. I am proud to work for a company where women are a majority”.

Over 75% of our employees at Explore Learning are women.

Sam- Learning and Development Manager

Learning and Development Manager

“Explore is truly a place that nourishes talent and helps you to identify your strengths and surpass what you originally perceived your potential to be.”- Sam

“I feel privileged to have met and worked with so many inspiring women during my nine years at Explore. I absolutely would not be the confident, self-assured professional I am today without the support, guidance and mentorship of the very talented women that have been role models to me over the years.”

Sam joined Explore as an assistant centre manager in 2013, and went on to run and launch two of our centres as a Centre Director. Discovering she had a talent for developing others, Sam joined our Learning & Development team in 2017; in this role, she has been able to have an impact on hundreds of our tutors, centre managers and central team. With Explore’s support, Sam is currently undertaking a Level 5 apprenticeship in Coaching, which will see her become a qualified coach in May this year.

“I started my career with Explore Learning as an Assistant Director in Leeds back in 2015. In 2017, I was given the opportunity to launch a brand-new centre in Wakefield as a Centre Director; a promotion which gave me incredible autonomy to make my mark as a leader within the business and wider education industry. I believe Explore Learning is a great place for women to work because as a company, they embrace a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion and continue to look at ways to develop and enhance this. They use their platform to ensure individuals are given equal opportunities in the workplace.”

“I started my career with Explore Learning in 2017 as a tutor. Throughout my journey I have been given the opportunity to progress; firstly to a Centre Director and now as a Sales Manager for our online tuition service – Explore at Home.
