Learning and Development
Life in our Head Office is vibrant, noisy, sometimes a little chaotic, and always always welcoming, fast paced and fun. Whether you have come through our home grown talent pathway and worked your way up through the ranks, or joined straight into the office through other avenues, you will instantly become part of our Explore family.
We invest time and energy in getting to know you, partly because we’re nosey, but also because we want to make sure that you feel supported when you join in a way that will suit you and challenge you to reach your potential. Your first few weeks at Explore will be all about you getting under the skin of our culture and really seeing our Vision and Values in action.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of working first hand in one of our centres then we will provide you with opportunities to get a sense of what life is like for our centre managers, tutors and our members through your staff induction. You’ll be given time to visit centres, meet our teams and also attend our 2 day Assistant Director Induction Training where you will get to grips with understanding their roles and responsibilities. The aim of this is to really help you understand how you can best support our centres within your role and how your department can help to drive bigger company performance and growth.
As well as all of this you can also attend other training days that we have available, for example our sales training will not only add more strings to your bow but will also give you the confidence to go out and support teams with fun marketing events throughout the year. Every quarter we run regular regional performance days which you’ll have the option to attend, on these days we delve deeper into how we can solve company issues and look at new ways that we can improve overall performance. These days are fantastic for creating opportunities for collaboration, debating and sharing your ideas.
You’ll be given access to your own individualised learning plan to record all of your appraisal scores and development actions, you can use it to record any external courses or conferences that you attend, it’s a brilliant way to keep track of your career progress and prompt you to think about where you might be heading. Essentially you have complete control and autonomy of your learning and development, along with the support and guidance of your line manager who will coach and mentor you with any new projects or challenges that may arise. We’ll want you to embrace centre life and always relate your job back to how you impact centre performance and optimise operations.

In my role as Operations Director I now support a range of teams from Sales to Customer Support to HR. I’m so lucky to work alongside such talented department teams who are constantly looking at ways to improve and provide a better service to our members and staff. In 2016 I officially became a Board Director, and I am now firmly involved in the strategic direction of the business alongside my peers. In my new role I’ll keep looking forward to driving the business growth – primarily by developing our brilliant people, delivering the very best service and ensuring that our members are reaching their educational goals. This focus has always been the heart of Explore for me and continues to be a huge part of our long term vision. I look forward to continuing to expand Explore into new parts of the UK, US and into new territories.
I am currently the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager within the Head Office Finance team, having previously worked in a centre as an AD and then a CD. My role involves looking closely at the company’s budget and analysing various performance targets. I have a background in maths and finance, but didn’t ever plan on this career path – I originally joined the company to work with children! Working in a centre was great experience and I got a lot out of both interacting with families and gaining business management skills.
I love my current role – my day-to-day work involves analysis that (hopefully) provides some insight into the company and influences its strategy. Although it’s a Monday-Friday office-based job, every day at work is different. There is a very unique staff culture that makes it a great place to work, and I never find myself watching the clock.
One thing which I hope to always be recognised for is ensuring that staff feel supported, challenged and motivated, and that they can approach me honestly with their feedback, ideas and problems if needed. Crucially at Explore, I have learned the utmost importance of really meeting the needs of the families with whom we work. In my career, I have worked with teams who between them have tutored in excess of 3,000 children and with this in mind, being able to listen and build a real trust between these families is so important. A typical day involves face-to-face marketing, responding to staff and customer feedback, interviewing potential new managers and providing parents with support and knowledge to best aid their own child’s learning. Because of this, it is important to approach every interaction with integrity, compassion and a genuine interest in customer service.
