## Maths workshops

#### P1

Spend the day on the beach sunning yourself with P1. They will collect objects they find on the beach and use the information they gather to create a pictograph to display their findings. How littered has the last person left the beach?

#### P2

Grab your wellies, P2 are zoo keepers for the day. They will need to compare, describe and solve practical problems for: lengths (longer/shorter), weight (heavier than/lighter than), capacity (more than/less than) and time (quicker/slower).

#### P3

The crew of the ship and P3 are lost across the Atlantic on a greedy pursuit for treasure. They will need to describe, follow and record their journey using signs, words and angles associated with direction and turning to find their way safely to dry land.

#### P4

Can P4 save the world? They will use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when solving problems, making best use of the mental strategies and written skills to save the Polar icecaps.

#### P5

Are P5 any good at cooking? I hope so! They are transported back to Roman times to cook a banquet for the Emperor. They will need to use and interpret a paper-based timetable, and make time calculations to plan their day to make sure the banquet is served on time.

#### P6

Pizza lovers at the ready! P6 are opening a brand new pizza restaurant. They have to investigate the recipes using simple fractions, percentages and decimal fractions and carry out the necessary calculations to create the correct pizza recipe.

#### P7

P7 need to work through a series of practical activities, to show their understanding of the relationship between 3D objects and their nets. This is a key skill needed to become packing designers and to design the latest Xbox packaging.

#### S1-S3

Pupils come face to face with the Dragons in our Entrepreneur Workshops. They will plan a well structured pitch for a brand new product, describing the features and benefits, explaining their marketing strategy, as well as exploring ideas for their target markets. Are they able to use their negotiating skills to persuade the Dragons to invest in them?

## English workshops

#### P1

P1 learn all about rhyming words as they explore sounds, letters and words, discovering how they work together. They will use what they learn to help them read and write.

#### P2

I hope P2 aren’t scared of monsters! They will spell the most commonly-used words, using their knowledge of letter patterns and spelling to invent the next generation of monsters. We will also give them some rules and use resources to help them spell tricky or unfamiliar words.

#### P3

I hope P3 don’t get seasick! Can they help Christopher Columbus on his treasure hunt for nouns? They need to select ideas of what they might see, hear and smell at sea and organise them in a logical sequence. Can they unlock the treasure chest at the end?

#### P4

Headline news! P4 have a tight deadline to publish a story. They need to listen to an interview with Edward the Explorer and make notes under given headings and use these to create a newspaper article. It has to be finished on time to keep the fierce publisher happy.

#### P5

Shh! P5 are employed by a detective agency to solve the crime of the century. They need to develop an informed view, identify and explain the difference between fact and opinion in order to write their detective notes. They will also need to recognise when they being influenced, and assess how useful and believable their sources are.

#### P6

An exciting letter has arrived in the post all the way from Japan for P6. They explore the elements which their Japanese pen pal uses in their letter, and use what they learn to create a haiku. They will need to use the appropriate structure, interesting characters and settings to make the haiku come to life.

#### P7

Ever thought P7 have the gift of the gab? See if they can persuade, argue, and express their opinions when they become advertisers for a travel company. They will need to discuss and evaluate their use of persuasive language to impact the readers of their advertorial holiday brochure.

#### S1-S3
