Meet Lydia Rose

Assistant Director

Being able to inspire and motivate children and young people is something I have always been passionate about. As part of my American Studies degree, I was fortunate enough to spend a year at the University of Miami. This was an incredible experience as alongside my studies, I volunteered at church summer schools teaching creative writing. It was this experience that led me to my decision to work with young people.

After a brief stint as a Social Media Executive for a company in the city, I became a Tutor at the Explore Learning New Cross Gate centre in 2014. I instantly fell in love with the company, not only for their dedication to providing the best service to their members, but also for their dedication to supporting and developing their staff. During my time as a Tutor at the New Cross Gate centre, I also went on to complete my Masters in Postcolonial Studies at SOAS, University of London in 2016. I will never forget how supportive the team at New Cross Gate were during this time as it was a challenging year for me! However, this support, and my hard work and dedication enabled me to graduate with a Distinction in my Masters.

After completing my Masters, there was no question what my next step would be. The only thing I wanted to do was continue supporting families at Explore and spreading the word about the great work that we do. I applied for the Assistant Director role and became an AD at the Abbey Wood centre in January 2017! I have a real passion for education so being able to decide exactly how education is delivered in my very own centre has been a dream come true. I am also extremely dedicated to developing and mentoring young people, and so being responsible for the training and development of my own tutor team has been challenging, but extremely rewarding. There is no better feeling than seeing someone grow in confidence and develop new skills that can help them throughout their lives.

I now look forward to a new challenge as I have been given the opportunity to be part of the team that will launch our Bromley centre! Being able to grow a centre from the ground up is extremely exciting and I cannot wait to inspire and motivate hundreds of kids as I introduce them to the wonderful world of Explore!
