Mum, dad and santa: Children share their heroes!
March 07, 2018
To celebrate the return of our National Young Writers’ Awards, we asked our members to tell us about their heroes – which is the theme of this year’s competition! Watch this video to see what they said…
As well some some of the heroes you might expect children to choose – like Batman, supergirl and even santa – mum and dad were the top choice with many of our members, who love how their parents cheer them up when they are sad and support them every day!
Celebrities were also seen as heroic – Jade from Little Mix featured because of her singing talent and Vin Diesel is a ‘cool dude’!
What makes someone a hero?
When we asked our members what makes someone a hero they gave us a range of qualities, from having muscles and running fast to being intelligent, kind and funny!
It was great to hear our members’ thoughts and get their imagination flowing for their hero-themed story!
We’re passionate about inspiring all children to write, from the young authors in the making to those a little more reluctant. This year we’re celebrating real life heroes with our free writing competition, from firefighters and paramedics to teachers and parents. We’re inviting children to tell us a story, in 500 words or fewer, about a hero!
